The next version of Raycast (v2) is using cross platform tech — time to find a new launcher and clipboard history app.

Desktop utilities like these need to be as resource efficient as possible if I’m leaving them running in the background all of the time.

@tonyarnold Think I’ll go back to Launchbar. It’s better for the way I use a launcher anyway.
@maxwheeler @tonyarnold That’s what I did.
@timriley @maxwheeler @tonyarnold I've been using @tinystartapp for a while…not sure if it's as full-featured, but working well for me!
@jaredwhite @timriley @maxwheeler @tonyarnold I'm appreciating the lightness of @tinystartapp as well. For what it's worth, my key uses are launching apps and as a calculator. The only thing I've been missing since switching is currency conversion.

If you’re happy to separate clipboard management. I’m loving TinyStart. And supporting @nileane is a bonus

@tonyarnold Can i ask how you determined this ? When i looked seemed to be AppKit ? Though am in the slow process myself moving to Tuna :)
@fatlazycat Raycast posted a technical deep dive into v2 on their blog that mentions the cross platform tech they’re using https://www.raycast.com/blog/a-technical-deep-dive-into-the-new-raycast

The story behind Raycast's cross-platform rewrite and the details that make it feel fast, delightful, and familiar.

@sebj Thanks when I looked at the frameworks used just said AppKit to me. will have a read 👍
@tonyarnold Although their initial work looked impressive, I’m glad I never jumped on it, as I could see this was only a matter of time in a VC-backed setup. Sticking with Alfred as my launcher and @paste_app as my clipboard manager.
@lukaskubanek @tonyarnold I had the same reaction. Raycast looked super sleek, and nicely extendable, but the VC funding made me decide to be cautious, and pass.
@lukaskubanek @tonyarnold Alfred is very capable, but I sure wish it was much better-designed! It’s very much developer UI all the way down, which is a bit tiring.
