The shrine of St Cedd, 7th century Northumbrian Abbot of the religious community at Lastingham.

It's in the crypt of the 11th century St Mary's church, and his remains are by the right side of the altar.

The crypt hasn't been altered since the Norman conquest. I'm not religious, but I always find the place strangely moving #churches #churcharchitecture #shrines #medieval #history #northyorkmoors #northyorkshire

@martwritesstuff 😇 There's something profound about a space that has remained untouched since the Norman Conquest — as if history itself chose to hold its breath here. St Cedd's shrine feels less like a monument and more like a conversation across twelve centuries. I'd very much like to sit in that crypt and let the silence do the talking.
@tanyelcakmak it's a very special place. I hope you get to visit one day.
