So I had to use #KDE (i.e. floating window management) today and while it's not as terrible as #windows, I f***** cannot stand it anymore. I don't find my windows, I don't have easy hotkeys (ok that one is on me obviously) and overall my workflow just isn't intuitive.

Ehm... help, I guess? ๐Ÿ˜…

#linux #tiling #gentoo

Like, to be clear: The most annoying thing is that windows open in random sizes* in random places* and it's altogether so irritating I can't believe I put up with that for like 30 years.

* I know that there is a weird quirky plugin that makes kwin tiling, but I don't have time or appetite to play with that when my stints on the WM is temporary... but... nargh!!!

@ftranschel Being forced to do work in an unfamiliar UI environment is such a productivity killer! Even when you were "used to it" before.

Seems that it will be (was?) only temporary, so I guess sending thoughts and prayers would be too much. ๐Ÿ™ƒ

Being able to choose your preferred OS+DE/WM and customize it to your needs is a great thing.

@MicKet Maybe it wasnโ€™t totally clear from my toot, I am on tiling window management all the time and this little episode made clear how glad I am about it.
@ftranschel I posted this because I never used a Tilling manager but Niri will be my first one I will try.
@MicKet Aha, now I understand. I *did* try Niri and while scrolling feels nice, having scratchpad/stash style workspaces is much more important to me. I get this in both sway and Hyprland without writing like a whole extension so Niri has not been my favourite.
