I'm on a fixed term contract at my university. I was filling in for someone retiring and the implication was that I would be a good applicant when the role was advertised. Well, I just found out that not only will that role not be offered thanks to budget cuts, but they can't even keep my small contract. So I am going back to a sessional role.
