😡But age verification and ID checks destroy everyone's #privacy. 😡

@Tutanota
Seeing Poland in that roster makes me feel bad for Walesa and everyone from "Solidarity" who fought against the Red Nazi Terror in the 80s.

Is this how you honour their legacy, Poles? By literally opening the door to KGB? Is independence and actual self-determination too much for you?
Are you willing to explain to your children that they'll never be accepted to their chosen school because mummy and daddy aren't members of "The Party"? Are you ready to explain to your children that the wholesome family friend got arrested because they forgot to raise the flag correctly?

All these checks are nothing more than a display of failure. How you failed to enforce the laws you already have. How you failed to treat children as human beings who need guidance while maintaining their curiosity. And you'll have to live with seeing the cause of this failure every morning when you look into the mirror. Yes, you're the cause because children learn from you. They learn from their surroundings. They're a reflection of the world you created. And if the world you created is unsafe for you, no amount of regulation will make it safer. It's you who has to change and show the better way.

@Tutanota Many people—including whistleblowers, political dissidents, or those in vulnerable situations—rely on anonymity to stay safe. Linking a real-world identity to every social media account removes the ability to speak freely without fear of real-world retaliation. In tech policy, what starts as a measure "to protect the children" often evolves into a standard for everyone. Age is the "Trojan Horse."
@Tutanota If an age helps vulnerable/young people, I'm prepared to support it. I dont want personal freedom at the expense of damage to someone else.
@Tutanota I like how the media makes fun of Russia for banning VPNs. But Europe is following the same steps and somehow this is different and they constantly explain how they protect us. Absolute hypocrisy.

@Tutanota

The Digital Statute of Children and Adolescents (ECA Digital - Law No. 15211/2025) in Brazil, regulated by Decree 12880/2026, explicity requires operating system providers to implement age verification mechanisms.

Law No. 15211/2025, Article 12 , combined with Decree 12880/2026, Article 2 and Article 15.

Have they ever heard of open source?

@herrman_sk @Tutanota

I am afraid they haven't the slightest idea.

@Tutanota to be fair, the portuguese bill explicitly bans id checks, only allowing for age verification through zero knowledge proof mechanisms
@Tutanota for the sake of providing a source, from Projeto de Lei nº 398/XVII/1ª (the bill in question), Article 7 clause 2 clearly states:
“Para efeitos [de verificacao de idade], é proibida a utilização de mecanismos de
verificação de idade baseados na autoidentificação do utilizador.”
The translation of which is:
“For the purpose of [age verification], the use of mechanisms based on the self-identification of the user is prohibited”
