Several factors account for this grim distinction: its geographical location, climate feedback loops, changes in atmospheric circulation, as well as improved air quality, which, by reducing reflective particles, intensifies warming. This paradox means further greenhouse gas reductions are needed to continue the fight against pollution – a major public health issue.
