@veronica Yes they do, however, the reality is many people value their privacy less than even a mild inconvenience. Thus, they will gladly give it away to save a few seconds one time.

So, basically, if you want everyone to have privacy, I only see one path in our current political climate, so averse to good legislation. The FOSS stuff needs to be easier to use, and more available, than the proprietary stuff. I don't know how to get there, but slowly gains are somehow being made in this area.
