In case you missed yesterday’s post: I wrote a little about the rumours surrounding the ex-Eleganti fully fashioned stocking factory over on Substack.

I genuinely hope the reports are wrong, but it’s an important moment for British hosiery manufacturing either way.

Our stockings actually haven’t been made by Eleganti for well over a decade now… although that’s probably a story for another day.
If the rumours are true, it’s still incredibly sad news for British hosiery manufacturing. Fully fashioned stockings are a tiny industry today, and every factory closure matters.

@whatkatiediduk yeah…

The nieche on "real [as in 100%] #Nylons" is small and not as profitable as it used to when they were the norm.
- And aside from few connaisseurs (like with #NylonStockings) or nieche applications (parachutes and paragliders, and even there it's obsoleted) pure #Nylon is considered "too flimsy" compared to even a 25% #Elastane blend.

Not to mention the yield rates are worse (see *"#Imperfects"*) which further increases costs.
- And then there is competition fron overseas.
