New York Governor Achieves Political Victory. From now on, insurance companies will reduce compensation to injured pedestrians. This will help drivers pay lower premiums - Feddit UK

(Insert anikin and padame meme here.)

“I lowered your costs Mr.Insurance parasite so you’re going to lower rates now, right?”

Okay so you get the promise of cheaper premiums for now….

Insurance companies of all types are greedy as fuck. This is temporary. This will get increased in the next 5 years, and I’m being conservative with that number because these slimy fucks will likely be trying to increase prices the next day after this goes into effect.

Supposedly you’ll get a cheaper premium today at the cost of not being reimbursed to make you whole tomorrow. So what happens when these same companies come back and want to increase your premium by $10? Are you now going to make parties whole by the same percentage? Likely not. And the cowardly government is just going to let them step on the public again.

And how does this work for out of state drivers in New York? You get into a wreck and you’re just fucked despite supposedly paying more than a New York driver who hit you?

"Lowest insurance in the state! Only $10 a month!"

In very small print - "Deductible includes total costs for medical and vehicle"

If insurance companies were getting hosed by injured people, why don’t they look into ways that cars might cause fewer injuries instead of abandoning the injured?

Capitalism is the enemy of reason.

One easy such thing, is puttling a piece of metal over a tractor trailer’s wheel area, so you get deflected if you go under and not chewn up and spit out. It’s voluntary and few trucks have it on them yet but a bunch of little stuff like that could help.
I thought those were for airflow. They do not look strong enough to deflect anything bigger than a bicycle.

I just saw one of these blockers the other day, almost all trucks do not have them though. I’m not sure what you are referring to exactly.

Trapped Under Trucks

For decades, federal safety regulators ignored credible scientific research and failed to take simple steps to stop gruesome roadway crashes involving heavy trucks. Meanwhile, the bodies piled up.

Saves countless lives.

I wasn’t thinking of the big one in the back, sorry. I was referring to the long side skirts that run down the length of the trailer.
I think the sides are where most of the accidents happen, yeah those skirts are supposed to deflect cars, looking for the pictures, I saw a couple of cars that hit them head on and went half under. I think it’s more for sideswipes.
Sideswipe seems plausible. They just look so flimsy.
Speak of the devil, I was driving today and I saw one of the rather flimsy looking sheet metal barriers that was totally just blown apart. Some of the barriers look more robust than others, you are right though some look super flimsy and this one appears to have been that.
in Europe they are law for safety.
Democrats proving yet again why they’re no better than Republicans and are completely unfit to govern.
Hochul is a conservative in centrist clothes
So the same as 95+% of elected democrats.
Yep she’s the prime example of one
Which is especially true for New York State lawmakers, they’ve always been super corrupt. Always.
The Russian Mafia on NYC will not be pleased. Is NY still a no-fault state? They could start there.

Uh…missing 90 days of work due to an injury is pretty fucking serious, and I would absolutely expect to be compensated if someone inflicted such upon me.
Hear me out, they could just offer a non-profit insurance option through the state; this would make private companies need to be offering better benefits to consumers to stay competitive. There is no need to remove baseline benefits for people at all.

Canada has provinces with public insurance, and provinces with private “free market” insurance.

Public provinces pay >35% less.

Insurance is massively corrupt with our politicians. Even the left wing parties.

Insurance companies are allowed to invest premiums and are for-profit companies. Payouts are a drop in their buckets. With all the goings on in the world they should be heavily regulated. And/or what @[email protected] said.
