It's about time for me to start once again thinking about taking my cooler shopping with me on my bicycle, again.

Despite the fact that we are still under localized frost warnings, this week, the weather is warm enough during the days that I don't want to buy frozen food without my cooler and ice bottles.

This brings me to another point about car camping. One of the things that I dislike about cars is the fact that unless they are parked out of the sun, they heat up alarmingly.

And, even if you have an insulated ice chest inside the car, eventually, that will heat up as well, and then take that much longer to cool down.

Even if you have a garage at home in which to park, when you are out and about, you may not be able to park in a garage most of the time, but you may still want to keep items in your car that need to be protected from extreme heat.

In the US, firearms in cars aren't exactly uncommon, and sometimes, you have to leave a firearm in a car.

Which of course is yet another reason why I am sensitive about the #RTKBA, when I don't at the very least have a vehicle in which to secure a firearm, if I need to make a temporary stop at a place where firearms are forbidden.

I absolutely cannot and will not leave a firearm on a bicycle parked in public, but even though I live in a constitutional carry state, many private establishments prohibit firearms on the premises.

It's unreasonable to expect people to forgo their rights for an entire day, merely because they may need to make a short stop at a government building or private business which prohibits firearms on the premises, but most people don't think much about this, because everything in our society is so car-centric, that people assume you can simply lock a firearm in a vehicle.

That is not as simple a matter as it sounds. A car sitting in sunlight can reach dangerous temperatures very quickly.

And a car is obviously not really "secure", in the first place, even if it is more secure than a bicycle or even a motorcycle. The most secure place for a firearm that isn't in a safe in a secure location is *on your person*, where it is under your direct control at all times.

But even aside from firearms, what if I simply wanted to keep food in my car for emergencies, and not have to keep loading and unloading my car?

An insulated cooler box is, again, a short-term solution.
