Beyond Early LDL Cholesterol Lowering to Prevent Coronary Atherosclerosis in Familial Hypercholesterolemia
Half of young adults with familial hypercholesterolemia had heart artery plaque despite early medication. Plaque levels were closely tied to total cholesterol exposure over time. Starting treatment before age 25 helped lower cholesterol but did not greatly reduce plaque.
