When I was maybe 11 or so, I picked this book from a dusty old shelf, and found a story that has stayed with me ever since. It's a strange book, almost unclassifiable, but beautifully written. My favorite character doesn't appear until nearly the end, but I relate to him more strongly with every rereading. In our present day, it echoes profoundly. The audiobook is also wonderful. #books #bookstodon #classicbooks

I picked it up again because I so needed a story free of murder or rape or cops. It's really starting to scare me how nearly every modern story is about horrific violence. There's no murder in Random Harvest, or anything really creepy. It is old fashioned in many ways, but much more complex than the tropes that one might expect. Extremely thoughtful writing. And I think many fellow #autistic folks might relate to Blampied, who is the soul of the story, appearing near the very end.
