So how do we know the airport code of the _secret_ Air Force base at Groom Lake #Area51 is #KXTA? That was a big #oops on someone's part in 2007. A routine aviation navigation database update was not scrubbed for classified material and... there it was. The story was broken by AOPA when pilots noticed it on #aviation GPS units. USAF response: "We know. It doesn't matter." 😀 Student pilots needed to be taught not to use it as a waypoint. https://www.aopa.org/news-and-media/all-news/2008/january/10/dont-ask-dont-tell-area-51-gets-airport-identifier #military #avgeek #history #WTF
@ikluft There's an ATR at our local international airport and it's pretty common knowledge that it belongs to the CIA.
