I fell in love with these huge (A3-size) books in Prague. I’ve seen the cover design described as pretentious (like me) but the full-page engravings are really fabulous.

The book only just fits on the scanner i use, with a few mm (eighth of an inch) to spare.

@caitp indeed - well, wood engravings. Given the fine level of detail, they are either large wood engravings (done on the end-grain) or they are engravings in metal. Of course, it’s “modern art” from the end of the 19th century... mostly engravings based on paintings shown in the main galleries in Europe at the time as far as i can tell.

@caitp it’s awesome, and this one (i’ve bought 7 of them over the past 15 years or so) was super cheap in a shop in Prague, and i carried it home in my suitcase (weighs maybe 2Kg)!
