I got a real big and old dictionary for a project -- if i can figure out how to do it
This is why I love this dictionary. The meanings of some words have changed so much since when it was printed in 1930.
@MLE_online I had no idea it was ever called anything but roller chain!
@attoparsec Nor did i!
@MLE_online @attoparsec I thought it was just "bike chain."
@drwho @MLE_online That's a subset, usually with a 1/2" pitch like #40 roller chain, but much narrower. So you can use #40 chain on bike sprockets, but you can't use bike chain on #40 sprockets.

@attoparsec @MLE_online

Bike shops could have hyped themselves as working on block chain.

@attoparsec @MLE_online that's different to roller chain - roller chain has rollers to reduce friction. AKA https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bar-link_chain
Bar-link chain - Wikipedia

@MLE_online crypto will forever be cryptography, as block chain will always be drivetrain.
@MLE_online every time I see a tome like this I assume it's hollowed out and holding something smaller inside
@MLE_online Oh Wow. I would have wanted an old OED but that's my second and congrats for getting your hands on it.
@MLE_online I love the cutout thumb indexes on reference books like this
@petes_bread_eqn_xls I feel like I don't see this on new books. I wonder why

@MLE_online my cynical answer is that it’s probably difficult / expensive to automate

but I don’t really know either

@MLE_online We had one like that in our house when I was a kiddo.
