For the first time, I can unequivocally say that revealing my autism has helped me get a tutoring job.
I crossed that bridge with my queerness last year. A parent mentioned their kid being queer, and I responded that I am too. I got the job, and I really helped that kid. (I'm sure the parent did it to keep the 'phobes away, because when we connected, there was a huge Pride flag on the wall of that kid's room. 😂)
This time the parent did not mention the autism into job description, but I clicked on the button that gives more details and for the subject, I saw: "Autism math."
I mentioned in my response exactly what I had seen, and mentioned that I am autistic.
I've sometimes revealed it in other responses when the parent put something in the job offer. However, it has never helped before.
The first session is scheduled for Friday of this week. 🥳
