TIL there's an open-source search engine called #SearXNG that you can host your own instance of and that has better and more relevant results than Google.

(To be fair, it's a meta search engine i.e. it pulls its results from other search engines but like, none of its results come from Google lmao)
@SimonNovak I have used it before and its nice, i recently stopped using it for Brave Search with LLM disabled

gonna try host my own local instance of SearXNG again for better search quality and avoiding SEO spam and nonfree js by adding hostname blocklists manually as time goes on and messing with weights and BM25 SearXNG plugins all to avoid filter bubbles and also self filter bubbles, I'm sure that level of control will be miles better than Kagi (i dont trust kagi's proprietary lock-in at all)

weight customizing and all sounds fun
@syveria @SimonNovak fwiw, i find this a nice instance: https://nogoo.me/search

SearXNG — a privacy-respecting, open metasearch engine

@MsDropbear42 @SimonNovak @nogoome nice, rare to see a public searxng instance not get ratelimited to death

There's also
https://4get.ca which looks cool but im not fully sure if it can scrape from multiple engines at once from one query
4get

4get: 4get is a proxy search engine that doesn't suck.

@syveria from what I understood, 4get seem to target one remote engine at a time. Which is mainly why we keep using SearXNG these days.
