A thread of podcasts I have listened to as replacements for #KnowledgeFight
1. #IDon’tSpeakGerman: it was an episode on Michael Shermer (a topic I feel I already know too much about) and it was both informative and fun. Will listen to more!
2. #CognitiveDissonance: it was an episode on conspiracy theories about the White House Ballroom shooting, & the theorising about the nature of conspiracy theories felt like stuff straight out of the late 80s/early 90s. Felt very dated & had a bit of a “New Atheist” vibe. Unlikely to listen to more
(Also, #CognitiveDissonance loses marks for going on about how the hosts go “Sans information I’m just not going to speculate, unlike a conspiracy theorist!” before then speculating wildly about how the shooting went down)
3. #PostingThroughIt: an episode on Iranian monarchists. Very informative and most of the jokes at people with weird views land because we’re given appropriate context for those views being skew-if. Also, nicely to have a podcast that isn’t just all men all the time
4. #SeriousInquiriesOnly: an episode on Trump assassination theories. The host says the left needs to not act like Alex Jones but then goes on to beg, like Jones, for his audience to keep listening. Plus, despite couching his views as arguments, anyone who disagrees is labeled crazy or insane.
This one I couldn’t even finish, so it’s not staying in the rotation.
