ermagerd, I replaced the keyboard and heat sink + fan assembly and the laptop boots and seems to act normal. now let's see how long it takes me to unlearn having to paste the letter 'm' in every time I need it due to having had a dead m key for months... #iFixedIt #Thinkpad

now I just need, at some point, a replacement motherboard (since this one is down to 1 of 2 power inputs) and maybe a display upgrade... the current display has minor damage which thus far isn't getting worse despite there being an actual hole in the screen, but supposedly it's possible to upgrade the T480's display to a much better one than it came with (both resolution and color gamut).

I also need to replace the top plastic of the chassis at some point, it's got a couple cracks in it.

pretty much a setup for a Laptop of Theseus type situation. I don't know if the current business-class Thinkpads are as durable as this one but I hope so.
