Looking for a good privacy focused #ereader with #eink display...

Anyone have a #boox device?

Other suggested devices?

@limebar Someone posted on here about two weeks ago. Cheap, not married to any system, reads anything, no bloat.

I'll poke around and see if I recall whom did it.

@limebar This is the one he was talking about:

Xteink X3

@limebar I had a Boox and thought it was great, but got sick (once again) of carrying a separate reading device around and went back to reading on my phone. I gave the Boox to Aelyth, who loves it and uses it all the time.
@elsemusic thanks!
@limebar I've also had Kobos in the past; my favourite was the smallest one because it was easiest to cart around. I thought they were fine too.
@limebar i have the nova air (air nova? god i just looked at it and already forget 😅) and i like it quite a bit. i think the color eink has improved since my model, but mine is perfectly nice to look at, newsprint-ish (the blacks are crisper than the color). being an android tablet obviously has some complication drawbacks, but it’s also super nice that i can use my rss reader of choice, use a normal web browser, do chess puzzles, etc. wish it had page buttons on the device rather than the case.
@brhfl ohhh color. Ok thanks
@limebar Have a look at PocketBook devices.
@limebar I have Boox NoteAir, i will not buy anything from Boox in the future
Pros:
- it still works without issues after 5 years of heavy use
- android, so i can setup syncthing and others
Cons:
- the system received updates for about a year, then a new shiny model was released and updates for this one stopped, it's stuck on android 11
- Boox is using custom linux kernel the haven't relesed (violating GPL), so no chances of running postmarketOS or anything else in the future
