BLUF: Overnight into 5 May 2026, Ukraine launched its largest recorded strike package against Russian territory using a massive combined wave of fixed-wing attack drones and FP-5 "Flamingo" cruise missiles.

The Russian Ministry of Defense claims it intercepted 601 drones and all six Flamingos.

Video evidence confirms Ukraine launched six FP-5 Flamingos in the strike package. The RF MoD claims all six were intercepted. At least one FP-5 and multiple FP-1s are confirmed on video reaching their targets, meaning the MoD claim is false. By the same logic, if 601 drones were shot down, the launch total was substantially higher.

The confirmed primary strike was VNIIR-Progress in Cheboksary, Chuvash Republic, a defense electronics facility producing guidance and navigation systems for Shahed/Gerbera drones, FAB UPMK kits, Kalibr cruise missiles, and Iskander ballistic systems.

Fires and structural damage are confirmed on video.

The attack unfolded in two waves. The first, beginning around 00:25, used mass drone swarms from multiple vectors to saturate and exhaust air defense crews.

A second wave arrived around 07:00. Fifteen airports across Russia were closed during the operation.
