@phf Such huge beasts! Became aware of this once again when writing on my long-term project „Late Medieval Fantastic Campaign“, a #hexcrawl located on the Frisian peninsula around 1400 C.E. When populating 5-Miles-hexes by drawing on historical sources I sometimes end up with having 4 roughly contemporaneous castles and three factions (chiefly families) in one hex
@HeyeBodo @phf I'm always apalled when various hexcrawls and generators set a village as a potential place. A singular village in a whole hex? I always throws me off

@vdonnut @HeyeBodo @phf 8 km would be where most peasants spend their whole life in a medieval equivalent setting. A village would usually have a 3 to 10 km "main influence zone" (1-2h away from village). Closer villages or burg would be less than a day away, that is 20-30km at most.

I usually use 5km hexes which are close enough to 1 village per hex.

@HeyeBodo @phf Frisian hexcrawl? Are you aware of @simiofdoom.bsky.social 's zine project? (basically Frisian Pirate Borg)
