Regional Riffs (join in) - Hails and Ales

Inspired by a hashtag that was used for a short while on Mastodon, I have decided to adopt this term for a post in the explicit hope that others join...

Hails and Ales
@HailsandAles fuck yes. I'm doing it. Now, gotta gather em up. Two popped to mind instantly... Hmm haha
@jake4480 yes! I look forward to it

@HailsandAles Cozy Powell is the only musician (afaik) from Cirencester itself.

But the best known band is XTC who are from Swindon, just down the road. I guess that means I can have Dukes Of Stratosphere or is that cheating?

Billie Piper is from Swindon too ๐Ÿ˜‚

@HailsandAles the best bands Colchester can claim are Modern English (this particularly pleases me) and Blur. Graham Coxon is soon to release a Colchester-inspired album with images of Colchester as the artwork!
@HailsandAles We have a lot of guitar pop from around here โ€”the Manics, Stereophonics, Catatonia, Feeder, The Alarm etc, but not a lot of metal besides Skindred. Thisโ€™ll be an interesting challenge. ๐Ÿ˜‰
@gavin57 Manics! Still love em
@HailsandAles The absolute standout band from Tynedale are the Unthanks. As this isn't a densely populated part of the world, we have few other notable bands. But we have the Unthanks, and that is more than enough.

@HailsandAles okay, I have mine! I have (edit: 5).

Meat Puppets are an obvious one. They are truly, as they self-describe, 'America's favorite hidden treasure'. ๐Ÿ˜‚ Curt is maybe my favorite living guitarist.

Blood Loss is from Mesa - deathy, sludgy Cannibal Corpse kinda feel.

Yellowcake. Hardcore punk - rough and fast

Gin Blossoms. Tempe boys. I've dug these guys since I first heard Hey Jealousy. Allison Road, Found Out About You, all kinds of hits. And huge Smithereens fans. Lead singer Robin now sings for them sometimes since original singer Pat passed.

Death Tunnel. I'm so crazy about these guys. I mean, riffs for DAYS. One performs as like, Leatherface? It's wild.

Meat Puppets
@jake4480 @HailsandAles I remember getting this one, Meat Puppets II, and Heuvos on CD when I was 16, and me and my mate from school were obsessed for a couple of years hahaha
@rosscampbell @HailsandAles haha hell yes! It's so good. I started with Too High to Die as a teen but this was just a bit later- definitely my favorite album from this year.
@jake4480 @HailsandAles Heuvos especially you can practically smell the bong water through the speakers... I need to check out more of their stuff to be fair.
@rosscampbell @HailsandAles Huevos never stuck with me for some reason.. I do love their later stuff too- it gets overlooked. Lollipop, Seen Together, Rat Farm, Dusty Notes. All incredible

@HailsandAles Nice, I love me some regional scenes! Gotta think for a minute whether I want to claim my home state of New Jersey (which mostly means North Jersey when it comes to bands) or Philadelphia (culturally and physically closer to me) as MY region. And then I still feel a connection with other places I've lived, including Athens, GA (mid-ish 90s) and Columbus, OH (ca. 2000).

@donutage @HailsandAles that's true, I also thought of New Hampshire, Maryland and Florida banda but I stuck to Arizona ๐Ÿ˜‚
