Always interesting when two unrelated anime episodes that we watch in a row have something in common:

In #ReZero season 4, the group travels to a tower where they seek knowledge how to heal their loved ones. The tower is guarded by monsters. In episode 4, we learn that the tower is actually a library and the have to take a test to get inside of it.

In #AtelierOfWitchHat episode 2, Quiffrey tells Coco about the library tower which has every book in existence, likely also the one that would help her heal her mother, but it’s guarded by monsters and there is a test to take so you can enter it.

@yellowjitsch Not many stories are original (not a knock on anything mind you, the Greeks figured it out thousands of years ago, and I’m sure other cultures did too) and when you see the inspiration it’s kinda funny:)

Tropes are tropes for a reason:) The number of devil/angel or hero/demon lord anime I’ve watched in the last few years alone! Heck there were two comedic “the demon aren’t actually bad” anime on at the same time even:)

Knowing some European mythology, history, children’s stories, and religion (the amount based on just Paradise Lost alone!) and you can pick out a lot. Add in some psychology (of the old hogwash kind) and philosophy and you nail so many JRPGs too.

That said I don’t mind it as long as they don’t rely on it for lazy writing, ie I don’t want to be able to guess the story without effort.

Need to catch up on re:zero. Happy that they keep making seasons, I want to see an anime with an end for once.

Loving witch hat. The artstyle is downright amazing. Makes me want to read the manga on paper.

@yon I wasn’t even saying that it’s unoriginal or anything 😅 I’m used to stories having similar themes, characters or plots.
But it’s still funny when two anime episodes that you randomly happen to watch right after each other have it.

@yellowjitsch Exactly, it’s not surprising but it’s always funny. I wonder if they might have gotten inspired at the same time. Something as simple as some news story or tv show or other.

I mean I get inspired but I’m not a writer so it gets stuck in my head. Probably for the better for everyone else :)
