I find I am often torn between wanting to support students no matter the level they have achieved and wanting to clearly enforce consequences for failure to meet minimum expectations.
Especially when I see they constantly self soothe on their phones, with chatter, with distractions, I find my empathy levels drop.
The awareness of neurodivergence is important, but the expectation that it’s an all encompassing excuse for not completing assignments is hard to work with.

I do give them the accommodations of sound cancelling headphones ( so then they distract from focus with watching movies), working in a separate space ( and then more people sit with them and start chatting).
And I have to mark what I see but they react as if it’s unfair that they get a failing mark for not completing the work.
Sigh….

@TAVCreations I think it's okay to set clear consequences. Boundaries are good.

I also think it's incredibly hard to be a kid right now. I would guess a lot of them find it hard to take school work seriously, given the state of the world.
