Do I belong in tech anymore?

On quitting, the spread of AI, and the loss of an ideal.

@CuratedHackerNews maybe I'm overthinking this. But if the first tick box in a tech job is good pay, maybe the priorities are wrong all along.

I agree, pay needs to be good enough for a decent living. But for me tick box 1 is: is the job about something that I'm passionate about? If that disappears, I'm gone.

@sergedroz @CuratedHackerNews Totally agree with you on this. Everyone forgets the fact that their passion can also get them the pay, required for living it is just that it takes time as compared to so called "secured jobs", where they just meet their daily needs and try to be happy.

For many folks interested in computer development and design the 'work' is the passion. When we first start out the ability to create something, and how we do it, is the thing we glom onto as the passion. Then once we start to master our craft we begin to realize that what we're creating matters more, and then we burn out after realizing that the corporate industry never cared about our passion and just used it, and us, as a way toward their own goals.
