Just out of curiosity: does anyone know a university doing a tenure track search next year in technical writing, rhetoric, writing studies, women's and gender studies, or similar fields that's in a safe state?

Asking for no particular reason.

Not WPA work, as an addendum. Trans women in WPA positions rarely see success, because administrators don't listen to them. I'm not going to accept a glass cliff position.

Ask me how I know.

(It's from personal experience desperately trying)

@Impossible_PhD for those of us not in higher ed. , what’s WPA work?
@masukomi Writing program Administration. Basically, running the programs, which is very labor-intensive administrative work.
@masukomi @Impossible_PhD I also don't know what WPA means in this context, but UC Berkeley has a posting in Gender and Women's Studies for their lecturer pool: https://aprecruit.berkeley.edu/JPF05033. They might not actually be hiring; campus strongly encourages programs to keep a pool open just in case, but some hiring is happening in some units. (Rhetoric doesn't seem to have anything currently, though.)
Lecturer Pool - Department of Gender and Women's Studies

University of California, Berkeley is hiring. Apply now!

@jmccyoung @masukomi that appears to be PT, no benefits, and a 1/3 load of $70k is only $23k. Not really livable, unfortunately, especially with CA cost of living.

Thanks though!

@stevendbrewer Not seeing anything on their website. Maybe in the fall.
@Impossible_PhD The hiring cycle usually begins with advertisements in the fall, interviews during the winter, and offers coming out in the spring.

@Impossible_PhD

I wish I knew of something with certainty. But in a relatively safe province I would suggest checking UBC, SFU, and possibly UVic?

@Impossible_PhD Williams College (depending on what you're meaning by university; Williams is in MA USA) WGSS is hiring a tenure track position in trans studies:

https://employment.williams.edu/faculty-positions/womens-gender-sexuality-studies-2/

Women’s, Gender, & Sexuality Studies

Description The Program in Women's, Gender, & Sexuality Studies (WGSS) at Williams College seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Trans Studies for a position beginning Fall 2026. The ideal candidate will do interdisciplinary and intersectional work in trans studies, with research on expressive cultures based in the United States. This research can include but is not limited to: performance, film, media, art, and/or narrative studies. Candidates must have experience teaching or demonstrate the capacity to teach courses in women’s, gender, and sexuality studies though their PhD may come from WGSS or a related field. The teaching load is 2 courses in the spring and 2 courses in the fall. Each academic year the hire will be expected to offer two core courses (e.g. Intro to WGSS or Foundations in Sexuality Studies) and two electives in their field of expertise. It is expected that the hire will participate meaningfully in the Winter Study curriculum, which is during January. We seek a candidate who can contribute to program building and the vibrant intellectual life of the college. WGSS is an interdisciplinary program designed to encourage students to focus critically on gender and sexuality, a study inherently threaded with other socio-political formations such as race, ethnicity, class, ability, nationality, and religion, among others. Our courses reflect interdisciplinary dynamism and encourage innovative teaching practices with particular interest in engaged and experiential learning. WGSS faculty provide undergraduate advising and mentorships inside and outside the classroom. WGSS has existed in some form at Williams for over 30 years. We have offered a major since 2002, and have graduated over 300 majors and concentrators since the program was established. The pay range for this position is $96,000-$106,000, commensurate with experience. Qualifications Ph.D. in Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies or related field by Fall 2026. Research expertise in…

> Review of applications will begin on October 15 2025.

Sadly, looks like they just didn't bother to pull the listing down.

@Impossible_PhD Ah, I grabbed an old listing by mistake... But I actually think there will be another search coming up in the same department (maybe more broadly defined)
@thuronyi Shame, because as a scholar of trans studies that works specifically in comics, that one would've been pretty perfect for me. 🤷🏻‍♀️
