I've reposted a number of old photos in the last year to catch up various platforms and one thing that's struck me is how often I used to use the captions for essentially artist's notes rather than alt text.

Sometimes it *is* annoying to write alt text, and there's definitely a nagging thought of "well, if you can't see this, what's the point" that I have to constantly push down. Ultimately, you just need to think of it as a basic courtesy to offer others who may need it for (1/2)

a variety of reasons. It costs you a little bit of time, sure, but it can really help others in ways that you may not think about because of your own circumstances.

Makes me embarrassed in looking at my old stuff, and not because some of the old captions feel cringeworthy. But you can only know what you know at any given point in time and try to improve where you can. (2/2)
