A seated woman at the center - composed, layered in ornaments, almost holding court.
Around her - three others. Standing. Leaning. Grounded. Not subordinate. Not decorative.

No male authority in sight.
No “chief.” No priest. No script.

But look again.

Structure is there. Just not the one textbooks trained you to see.

Jewelry is not vanity - it’s encoded identity.

The hut is not “primitive” - it’s climate-smart engineering.
The long staff is not a prop - it’s labor, protection, continuity.

Colonial photography tried to freeze “types.”
Tribe. Caste. Specimen.

But this frame leaks resistance.

No submission in their posture.
No performance for the outsider gaze.

Just presence.
Just system.
Just women holding the center.

Elite courtly literature? Silent on this.
Archaeology + visual records? Whispering a different past.

So the real question is:

What else did we inherit from people who never wrote it down - but lived it? 🤔
