I wrote about my experience with LTE modems on Linux and forgot to share it here. I tested the Quectel EP06-E, Sierra Wireless EM7455 and Sierra Wireless EM7565 with Debian and OpenWRT. Conclusion: OS support is great, the hardware is a bit complicated, OEM versions (especially from Dell) are cursed.

@yepoleb yeah, it's a whole rabbit hole. Even worse, on ThinkPads you may or may not get a Linux-compatible modem, and the bios will reject any modem that isn't your model. So, ppl who want to run Linux with modems have to flash a cracked bios, usually by dumping it with an eeprom programmer, upload it to a random obscure forum, and then pay or get for free a patched version they can flash, by a random guy who's apparently reputable. This was the scene a few years ago, I hope it's improved lol.
