City looked fine but a lot of blown out stormwater drain covers and stone/mud on the roads on the south coast. City itself seems mostly fine. This stormwater cover was carried 2m from its hole which must have meant a lot of pressure and volume racing down to the coast. Not that many slips to be seen on my route. #nzweather
@irix whoa. Where was this?
@SimonCHulse Owhiro road - most of the stormwater drain covers from my street up to Brooklyn village had popped out. Must have been a massive volume of water (stones, mud, rock too) being carried off the hills and down to the south coast.
@irix I have a job in Brooklyn this afternoon, do you reckon it’ll be safe to drive up there from the Hutt?
@SimonCHulse Probably fine. I saw cars and trucks heading down as per normal. Probably just be careful of holes in the road if the drain covers haven’t been reseated. I hear the tunnel is out but that shouldn’t affect things. There was a small mud slip on my street but I just walked around it - again if you’re into narrow or steep hillside streets probably just be extra careful.
@irix perfect, thanks for letting me know.
@SimonCHulse Good luck & take care out there!
@irix turns out the people I was going to be visiting have had the access path to their house collapsed on by the hillside!
@SimonCHulse doh! Looking at some of the photos and overnight footage it seems some areas got hit pretty hard on the south side (Berhampore, Newtown, Island Bay etc). Glad I missed Ohiro Road turning into a temporary river!
