NEW, by me: Sweden has blamed Russian government-linked hackers for attempting a destructive cyber attack on a thermal plant in western Sweden in 2025.

The cyberattack failed, but it's the latest in a string of Russia-linked incidents targeting critical infrastructure in Europe in recent years.

These types of attacks are one of the things that keep me up at night. A sobering example was the 2017 NotPetya attack on Ukraine, which spilled over and famously shut down Maersk as well. While banking & power were the primary targets, the broader goal was disrupting civilian life as a distraction during the invasion and occupation of the Donbas. It’s a stark reminder of how digital warfare has very real human consequences.
