Glass octopus: fake vs real

The first image below is an image found all over the internet, including Reddit. The second one is the real thing, from the Schmidt Institute.

See the difference:

The Suckers: On the Schmidt photo, the suckers are individual, perfectly formed translucent cups. In the Reddit image, the suckers on that far-right arm look like melting wax or a mangled gear—classic "AI Hallucination."

The Anatomy: Notice the "yellow speckles" in the Schmidt photo. Those are likely iridophores or specialized cells that AI often ignores in favor of just making the whole thing look like "clear plastic."

@appassionato Interesting. I suppose the real photo predates the fake and was included in the training set? Because that yellowish, oblong structure in the head looks close to a 1:1 copy in the fake, as would be expected if the number of photos of the real thing is small.
