The guy picked it up straight away, and consistently used "they" from that point forward—even in phrasing like "they said they like they hair pulled".. which made me so happy to read.
Like yes, I understand that the grammar is incorrect... but this tradie from regional Australia didn't assume that being told "they" meant anything other than using "they" was the right thing to do. There was no arguing, no "well actually..", no questions about what's in my pants.
