It’s the time of year when the teff hay the horse needs can get hard to find. And we are almost out. Last week I drove an hour east into the prairie and came home empty: very poor quality. But the sky is so big out there!

This morning I wound my way up the pass into a snow squall to check out the grass from a dealer high on the shoulder of Tava-kaavi.

To my relief, the hay looks good. It’s a long haul, but if the horse approves it, I’ll go back for a second load.

@impermanen_ What a gourmet horse!
@yngmar it’s not that it’s his favorite, it’s just the food that helps keep his laminitis at bay.
@yngmar he’s also 26 years old and running out of teeth, so he just can’t chew hay that is too coarse and stemmy. This stuff has a lot of seed heads (which taste bitter to a horse) but at least it’s soft.
@impermanen_ Ahh, luxury retirement home! We should all be so lucky.
