It’s the time of year when the teff hay the horse needs can get hard to find. And we are almost out. Last week I drove an hour east into the prairie and came home empty: very poor quality. But the sky is so big out there!

This morning I wound my way up the pass into a snow squall to check out the grass from a dealer high on the shoulder of Tava-kaavi.

To my relief, the hay looks good. It’s a long haul, but if the horse approves it, I’ll go back for a second load.

I’m way behind deadline and “supposed to be working” but honestly, it was great getting out and seeing the beautiful landscapes of Colorado with lots of time to think about nothing at all.
The burros intensely watch every bale go into the barn. #asstodon
Now Manuel has come into his barn stall for a better view of the unloading operation. 😆 #asstodon

@impermanen_

Is Manuel hungry? Or is the scent of the hay enticing Manuel?

@impermanen_

I've heard of wall-mounted trophy hunting heads but this seems to be going a little too far

@richpuchalsky 😂 In this case I think I am closer to being prey than hunter. He cranes his neck to grab mouths full of the hay as I go by.
@impermanen_ Coucou. Tu sais, ça me fait vraiment plaisir de voir que vous allez bien toi et tes ânes après la discussion qu'on a eue l'année dernière. Force à nous et aux paysans en général. 😘
