there's a flood of new state-level 3D printing laws that are basically sloppy moral panics about 3D printed guns, but the laws are all so terribly written and overly broad that they do more harm than good. NY is pushing one, now so is California:

mostly this is being driven by big manufacturers using the fear about 3D printed guns as a way to bring all the enshittification we hate about traditional printers (being forced to use their more expensive cartridges or your scanner locks up, for example) to the 3D printing space
