πŸ“’ πŸ“’"HARDCORE PIXELFED USERS" πŸ“’πŸ“’
What do you think about creating a voluntary "discover system" for sharing (linking) other people's photos and accounts?

Reasons behind this idea:
1. often, by chance, I discover good photographers and I'm like: "how have I missed this until now?"
2. boosts/reblogs don't work;
3. the Discover page only shows the top accounts all the time (same 7-8 people??). Which is great, they take briliant photos and deserve to be there. But it's not a Discover page, is it? It's a TOP/Trending page.

My thoughts so far:
1. Come up with an hashtag and make it a weekly event (like caturday, doorsday, monochromemonday...you get the idea);
2. Publish a post with links to fediverse photos/accounts we like and keep it there for at least 48 hours;
3. 100% voluntary, no pressure, just giving back to the community.

What do you think? Is it a stupid idea? How to improve on it?
Let me know in the comments.

RIP Yellow Mug btw, who died in the sink last week πŸͺ¦
#pixelfed
@meoralis I took the liberty of adding the hashtag to the bottom of your image. Is that alright for you?
@dan_t Oh yes, of course! Though I never meant for this image to be the real thing, it was just a rough idea how it could look. 😳 A professional should create a new one, as this sad attempt might hurt their feelings, haha
This is a great idea, perhaps we should add a new discovery feed πŸ€”
@dansup What are the chances that post boosting on Pixelfed will ever work? Is this something in the pipeline, or is it technically impossible and we shouldn't get our hopes up? If boosting worked across all instances, I suppose there wouldn't be a need for additional feeds?
When people ask why boosting doesn't work on Pixelfed, the more experienced users can only say it's a known bug, but this kind of implies it might work one day… There's a lot of guesswork around how Pixelfed functions and what its limitations are, which frustrates many users. I'd prefer it if we managed expectations upfront and transparently. A lot of us don't understand the tech behind the platform, so GitHhub lingo isn't really helpful when trying to figure out how to best use Pixelfed. πŸ₯Ί

Perhaps you could host some sort of AMA for Pixelfed, where we could submit questions about its functionality (boosting, adding/editing hashtags, and commenting would be my top 3, haha)? It would be great if you could briefly outline the current state and your vision for the future.
thanks @dansup! not sure how that would work, but it'd be great.
That's a brilliant idea! πŸ™ŒShould we also create an image we'd all use for this, so people would spot it in their timelines? Text-only posts don't work on Pixelfed and posting one of our own images to promote others feels a bit off, doesn't it?
I knew you'd be on board πŸ‘€ Or better, I hoped you'd be on board, The Hashtag Master of Pixelfed. Any idea for the hashtag?
Actually, you made a good point there. Posts would certainly be more recognizable in the feed. My graphics design skills are terrible though 🫀
Haha, you know I'm Team Pixelfed, always happy to spread the word! 😁
To be honest, the first thing that popped in my head was #π™½πšŽπš πšœπšπšŠπš’, but on second thought, it doesn't make much sense – just because I'm not aware of certain accounts doesn't mean they're new. πŸ€”
Maybe something along the lines of #π™·πšŠπšŸπšŽπšˆπš˜πšžπš‚πšŽπšŽπš— or #π™·πšŠπšŸπšŽπšˆπš˜πšžπ™ΌπšŽπš, followed by a link to the profile or post?
I'm not a graphic designer either, but I'm sure we could find someone to help out! It wouldn't need to be more than an abstract background and a bit of text to get the point across, like this awful brain fart here. πŸ˜‚
This works for me, it's simple and gets to the point.

Hashtags suggestions we got so far:
- #HaveYouSeen or #HaveYouMet by @meoralis
- #newviewwhodis or #scrollsafari or #peepthesepixels by @NotAHopeInHades
- #pixelsoftheweek by @Fabirucho

also tagging the other kind people who left a comment: @NYSloth and @Vexisu

I personally like #PixelsOfTheWeek and #HaveYouMet. What do you think? (No offense @NotAHopeInHades 😁)
That's alright! β™₯️ Whatever works best! ✨
All seem to be good, viable choices. I’m fond of the jauntiness of #PeepThesePixels. Whatever the choice, we should roll the hashtag out in CamelCase.
ok! I have a problem choosing things when there are multiple options. Which is a pain whenever I have to buy something. @meoralis @Fabirucho @Vexisu @NotAHopeInHades shall we go with #PeepThesePixels ?
TOWN MEETING! πŸ””
(I vote for whatever anyone else wants! πŸ˜‚)
Love it!! πŸ™Œ #PeepThesePixels πŸ“£
Sounds good πŸ˜„
🀣🀣🀣
Ready to hunt and gather, Sir! 🫑✨
Roger that! (any idea about the hashtag....I'm as creative as the stones in my garden)
I have one functional brain cell πŸ˜‚. Let's see... #newviewwhodis ? #scrollsafari (like we're hunters πŸ˜‚) #peepthesepixels ? I might have to sit on this a little longer πŸ˜‚βœ¨
oh dear....we're going to need a poll for this
This is going to be a Boaty McBoatface all over again πŸ˜‚
I would love to boost some under-appreciated toots. I really miss seeing what my Pixelfed fam boost, as I know they have very discerning eyes.
Nice! Thank you.
That's a great idea. The only viable way for me to find other photographers is by looking through local and global feeds, but some photographers upload photos ocassionally and can be easily missed.
exactly! but I find myself looking at Local/Global a lot less these days as the home feed is already very busy.
I mean, I do boost other people's things, because the boosts still show up for Mastodon and other users. So my non-Pixelfed followers will see them. And every now and then I open Mastodon profiles remotely to see their boosts as well. But I get what you mean, and I really don't understand why it doesn't work on Pixelfed.
I remember it used to work for a while, but it's been turned off 🫀
