Vote out the axe

Attached: 1 image A pet peeve is people misusing this alleged proverb (such as below) where it's made more and more explicit so that it can only be interpreted in a single way. And then is still presented as being the original proverb, with it being an old phrase giving gravitas to whatever hamfisted point the author is trying to make. The actual proverb is "Ağaca balta vurmuşlar 'sapı bedenimden' demiş" which translates more accurately to "They hit the tree with an axe, and the tree said 'the handle is of my body.'" There's so much going on in the world, and to post about this rather than anything else seems like a frivolity, but it grates on me because there is endless misinformation with no attribution floating around as if it were The Truth, and we should do everything we can to retain our tenuous grasp on reality. "It's okay when I make things up because I'm the goodie who's deriding the baddie" is actually total dogshit. Stop.
