Arguments for banning porn seem to often include an argument that goes something like "this list of violent and abusive men said that porn made them this way" and like. Why are you so willing to believe that this violent and abusive man is telling the truth rather than just looking to externalize blame for his own misogynistic actions in an act of self-absolution.

"It wasn't really me, it was the liquor/rock and roll/violent video games" is like the classic excuse for abusers that have been caught, anything to avoid taking responsibility. Surely anti-porn feminists know this?

@jake2 anti-porn feminists are really just Victorian moralists trying to assert pseudo-control over men’s behavior by banning some scapegoat for misogynistic behavior. In the 19th and early 20th century, β€œfeminists” or women’s activists led the temperance movement to ban alcohol with the argument it would reduce domestic violence and incidents of sexual assault. It’s the same today, except feminists today are buttressed more with theory.

@steff @jake2 anti porn "feminism" is a cooption of feminist by Christians. Sex positive feminism has made a difference in my life for the better, those sellouts have never done anything that actually helped me

@fluffykittycat @steff Sadly, I think to call it a cooption gives too much credit to the feminist movement historically. Reactionary tendencies have always been present. But I agree, sex positive feminism is a much more liberatory movement.
