Linux Kernel 7.0.x is the final release supporting i486 hardware.

It is planned that i486 support will be removed in 7.1.

The last mainstream development hardware to rely on i486 dates back to the 1990s (around 30 years ago). There were some edge cases in smaller markets that continued using it in manufacturing components into the very early 2000s, but these were not upgradable systems and were never considered mainstream.

If you're truly relying on i486 today, 7.0.x is as far as you go. Game over.
