CarlDear Fediverse, I am lost and need some help with #neteng planning. I run a small environment, we're eventually going to need an ASN. We already lease IPv4 from IPXO, but they are announced by our sole transit provider. I eventually want to have another provider and then #bgp all the things, but that requires an ASN and a handle at one the registries. RIPE is very forward and transparent about how it works, and fees, but I live in the US. So I think I need to use ARIN, which is...opaque. (cont)
The question becomes what are the fees and processes to get started with ARIN? My IPXO leases are already RIPE based, so would that make a RIPE account easier? If that is the case, does that mean I need to do something like a e-Residency of Estonia for myself and/or my company? Is there a corporate service that helps with all this mess? I would love some pointers here.
Max Effort@edolnx It's been a while since I did any BGP stuff, but from a few quick searches, I believe you can advertise your ip blocks, even the IPXO leased ones, through any RIR.
You just need an org ID. Which seems to me that you should be able to establish an ORG ID with RIPE and still advertise BGP through US providers.
@kubefred That part is clear, but what isn't clear is if you need to be a EU citizen/corp to create a RIPE account and thus request an ORGID
@edolnx ahh, I get it. Yea from my searching, there is a requirement for legal entity verification, ie the company is based in a RIPE country.
@edolnx ARIN posts the fee schedules, you could always set up an org id and ASN there, and advertise whereever.
They say its $250 a year which is down from the last time I checked.

You cannot obtain an ASN in the ARIN region as an individual. So that means some sort of state issued business registration.
Look at the fee schedule page for costs, you can probably expect a few hundred USD per year.
ARIN support is good to work with, but there may be more "process" and paperwork than other RIRs. Create an account and open a ticket to get the process started.
Note, you might want to just use RIPE. It might be easier.
@jtk I already have a C Corporation, so that's not an issue. The ARIN fee schedule doesn't seem to include membership fees, hence my confusion. The ASN fees are shown at least, but I also get a lot of "RIPE may be easier" style comments and I was hoping to expand on that...
