damn i think i need to replace my UPS, that or i lost a phase about a day and 8 hours ago for a bit

that’s not gonna be cheap

could’ve been a power outage nothing else noticed due to other UPSes and it just has a bad

proper battery is $400, for an old UPS that may be failing

might just need to replace the whole UPS

sigh

is the “Eaton Tripp Lite” stuff acceptable or should i go for full eaton?

i do not really want to go modern Schneider or CyberPower as i’ve had bad luck with both

it’s $545 for a new battery for a 20 year old UPS

i can gamble on that or buy a new UPS

i’m leaning towards new UPS

@gewt yeah new UPS, especially since the new ones all take that common UPS battery form factor that's super cheap

@fluffy oh, convenient

this was a high-power SmartUPS and it lasted quite awhile lol

@gewt I don't know what batteries are in common use for the larger rackmount UPSes but every consumer UPS I've bought in the last 20-odd years uses one like this: https://amzn.to/4ss01x3 (and of course there's plenty of non-Amazon sources too, this was just a convenient search result)

@gewt as far as a UPS itself goes I'm mostly using Cyberpower and the Amazon Basics brand (which I think is just a rebranded Cyberpower). I also have a big Ecoflow unit that I use to power my refrigerator during power outages and it can sorta be used as a UPS although there's a slight power dip during the cutover.
@gewt Specifically I have these on my servers: https://amzn.to/4ss01x3 and they also come in a rackmount form factor which costs twice as much, because of course it does

@gewt
I'd be leaning towards gamble for a little bit, then go new UPS.
@gewt it doesn't use a generic lead acid battery? mine does which I'm thankful about
@alicela1n it takes a 96V tray as it's 2200VA

@gewt I've been happy with actual Tripp Lite units, at least they don't cause the USB controllers to lose the plot like the Cyberpower I had did

This is whatever their single-phase 1500VA with LCD unit is

@gewt so far the Tripp Lite rack UPS I have is pretty solid. That’s not a lot of data points though. I have a 1500VA model.
@gewt I used tripp lights stuff in the 00s and early 10s and it was all fine, the network adapter was too damn expensive and a little janky but worked fine
@gewt yikes, how big is this battery!!
@mpmc uhhhhhh it’s a 2200VA SmartUPS lol
@gewt Ah. I think the max I have is 850VA, possibly less! Although I do have 3 of them, and the bats were all swapped with 12V 8AH LiFePO4.
