Here's what France's new #Linux desktop will look like.

Officially, we don't know what France's forthcoming Linux desktop will look like, but this is what my sources and experience tell me to expect.

Hi,

I believe they are some inaccuracies in your article,

First and foremost :
As stated by the DINUM, the change from Windows to Linux, only concerns the DINUM itself, around 250 work stations.

The operating system should be NixOS,
(to capitalize from their work on

We do hope the DINUM will inspire a broader change

We mention it in our press release (we'll try to soon translate it in english)

As for LaSuite, it might change, but as for now, as far as we know, it remains a solution developed and maintained by the DINUM, that central administrations may or may not use.
There doens't seem to be a plan to generalize it and make it mandatory

In general aspects, we believe what Germany as announced, the Deutschland-Stack, to be much more ambitious

@lonugem the only thing that I can say for sure is that teams/zoom should be going away from research institutions: the CNRS and INRAE have announced that we're moving to "Visio" from LaSuite. Hopefully that also means that we're going to move towards the rest of it eventually, but that's indeed not a general mandate.
