...but do cats know they're soft?
Do they ever pause in the middle of washing fur or snuggling their noses into their own paws like: Oh I'm so soft. Nicely done, good job me

No. They only have two thoughts:
"GET AWAY FROM ME OR I'LL KILL YOU!"
"GIVE ME FOOD RIGHT NOW OR I'LL DIE!"
@kilroy_was_here Thinking about how my boys will determinedly cuddle me even when it's deeply inconvenient and Karvinen specifically will climb back on my chest to lick my neck no matter how many times I move him aside so I can actually sleep... I can fairly confidently state that there's a lot of different cats.
They do enjoy the food, though
@sinituulia I have brought up before on my main that one of my cats, Eliza, has an uncommon, downy softness, that is next-level soft, like even compared to other cats, who are not slouches, when it comes to softness. And sometimes I ask her, out loud: how do you do it? How do you even be so soft?
She never answers me, but I can’t help noticing she also doesn’t challenge the assumption of my question. I can tell she knows she’s being soft, but she isn’t going to give away her secrets
