Orion Ussner kidderI spent a LOT of time reading Moore's comics as well as commentaries on his comics, and eventually I realized he's a very talented weirdo, and that's why I like him. He can say things like this, and mean it, and also understand it's sort of mad:
What strikes me about is that last sentence, "If you're doing it right," even though earlier, he said it can be unintentional. He's mixing up authorial intent with something more akin to the death of the author. I have no idea what he would say if I started poking holes in his construction.
He'd probably write me off as one of those people who locked into a small belief system, and that makes me a little sad, but also the conceptual system I use is really sharp, and his is mad. So.
This is the kind of thing I mean. Like, no, ideas aren't alive. That's a fine metaphor, but I ultimately think he doesn't see a difference between metaphor and reality, and that seems quite mad to me. I think he knows it's mad. I think he likes that it's mad. I think he might get a kick of me shaking my head at him.
