Just misread #Essex pub with #beer garden as "Essex pub with #bear garden" 🐻

(Bears have not been kept in #pubs in Essex / East London since 1970s, when the practice was quite rightly made illegal under animal welfare grounds (the remaining pub bears were relocated to local zoos)

@vfrmedia πŸ€” Why did Pubs have 🐻 in the 1st place

@nemo It was the Bear Pub in Romford (in East London on the border with Essex), the bear (a small black bear) would even eat crisps and sometimes be given a treat of a quart (1,14 litres) of mild brown ale!

By the 1970s the animal welfare organisations disapproved, and laws were changed so the landlords would have needed a licence for the bear (which although it isn't that expensive would require proof they have the right enclosures, and a local vet who can look after it), so when they retired it was relocated to a zoo in Cambridge (which would have all these things)

@vfrmedia 🀣🀣🀣 Hahaha wtf.

Thank you kind Sir for the elaboration… 🎩 xD
