🇭🇺 🤞

Apparently the turnout in elections in Hungary 🇭🇺 is massive, latest data shows 74.23%:

This, I think, is a good sign.

Nemzeti Választási Iroda - Országgyűlési képviselők választása

Választási szervek - Nemzeti Választási Iroda

With 60.24% votes counted, Tisha is at 136 out of 199 seats. Constitutional majority is 133 seats in Hungary 🇭🇺.

Just to be clear, Tisza is not a progressive party. I do not have extremely high hopes regarding leftist policies if Tisza wins.

But at least Orbán will be out of the picture, and at least Tisza is not running on a platform of basically supporting Putin's war in Ukraine.

Fingers remain crossed, much can still change with 2/5 of the votes still to be counted.

Orbán conceded:

Tisza at 138 seats out of 199, at 72.44% counted votes:

Numerically (back of the napkin math here) at this point Tisza has the majority of *all cast votes* (counted and not counted). Even if all votes counted from now on go to Fidesz, Tisza will retain majority.

How that translates to seats would be a different question, of course. But it is a line in the sand.

Orbán's 16-year rule is over as Hungary backs challenger in key election

Hungarian voters have ousted long-serving Prime Minister Viktor Orbán after 16 years in power, rejecting the authoritarian policies and global far-right movement that he embodied in favor of a pro-European challenger in a bombshell election result with global repercussions. It was a stunning blow for Orbán — a close ally of both U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin — who quickly conceded defeat after what he called a ″painful″ election result on Sunday night. Election victor Péter Magyar, a former Orbán loyalist who campaigned against corruption and on everyday issues like health care and public transport, has pledged to rebuild Hungary’s relationships with the European Union and NATO — ties that frayed under Orbán.

AP News

Currently Tisza is at at 138 of 199 seats with 96.37% votes counted:

Back of a napkin math: even if all remaining votes go to Fidesz, Tisza should get a *constitutional* majority. 🎉

Fidesz and Orbán have been utterly obliterated in these elections. Congratulations to Hungarians 🇭🇺!

This is a massive vote of confidence and hope for Tisza and Magyar. Let's hope they take it *seriously* and do not squander this trust.

There is a lot of responsibility on them now to not let people down.

@rysiek look at how difficult the Tories made it to turn things around after their 14 years. Labour didn't stand a chance at being popular with a floor covered in shit and only a toothpick to clean up with
My pessimism senses are tingling that they'll be replaced by something like reform LTD just as is bound to happen here
@spytfyre Labour was its own worst enemy though. Tisza does not need to go that route.
@rysiek
This is politics though
Never seen best intentions go smoothly
Recommend watching Servant of the People with Zelenskyy. He tells it like it is in that comedy parody of real life. Then it became his real life and still there is work to be done to fix deep rooted issues. War has seen him lead longer than perhaps he might (and imho lead well) but he still has to shift people around and boot out someone who hasn't been on the level.

@spytfyre no-one forced the post-election labour to become the pound store british national party, and no-one forced the post-election labour to embrace the hate of trans people as one of the major planks of their platform.
