Trying to argue with car-brained people...

One says that since everyone drives above the posted speed limit that it's the speed limit signs that are wrong, and the drivers are right!

sigh...

@rasterweb wow. ive heard some real silly contortions to justify car stuff but this one... wow
@SarraceniaWilds We could raise the 25 to 30... then people will go 35 though, so we could raise the 30 to 35, and... where does it end?

@rasterweb The sad part is this is how speed limits are actually set.

“Texas, like many other states around the country, sets speed limits on state roadways using the “85% rule.” Basically, the Department of Transportation comes out to a highway, monitors how fast everyone is going in a speed survey, and sets the new speed limit at the 85th percentile.

If you think about it, if 85% of drivers stay just over the speed limit, that speed limit would creep up over time under the 85% rule.

Once DOT engineers determine the speed of the 85th percentile, they’ll round the number to the nearest 0 or 5, and make that the new speed limit.”

@rasterweb I also love the car-people who rail against cyclists who only yield, and don’t stop, at stop signs. As if most cars stop completely at a stop sign.

(And P.S. drivers: in Colorado it’s the law that bikes don’t have to stop unless there’s a car at the intersection)

@rasterweb I see dumb people. They’re everywhere, and they don’t even know they’re dumb.
