TONIGHT on Heroes of New Halcyon in the #MMRPG!
Our heroes were called to the East Lairdman County Supermax Prison, where an old foe, Dr. Peace, requested an audience with the Mythic Six. He formally introduces himself as a "professional courtesy," and expresses his interest and admiration of them and their efforts, having tangled with the Bats, the Spiders, and the Arrows in the past.
He had a request for the heroes... 1/?
Apparently, during the gathering of evidence for his pending court case, something very important went missing: A USB drive that had his client list on it. He believes that one of his clients ratted out the location of his auction, and he wants them to be implicated in the case. Something of a "If I'm going down, I'm taking you with me" kind of thing.
Striking up the friendly rapport of a southern gentleman, for being an arms dealer, he tempts the Mythics with the promise of... 2/?
...preventing a problem later. With the allure of keeping anootehr criminal off the street before they do serious damage, the Mythics agree to check out the Puff Stuff Club, where the auction had taken place.
On their way out, they run into the renowned and beautiful Jolene Murphy, top Detective at the NHPD! Introducing herself, she informs the heroes that she'd been listening in, and that Dr. Peace might be up to something. 3/?
Jolene is suspicious of a connection, and wants to work with the Mythics in uncovering the missing USB. Danger Man maks the connection between Jolene and the retired detective Patrick Murphy (from The Gneech's old campaign!). Jolene is Patrick's daughter!
Since the situation is sensitive, Jolene wants to keep on the down low a bit and avoid alerting any potential insiders at the prison. What's more, she wants t leave early because... 5/?
...Bobby Blaine, a.k.a. Alpha Sentai, is dropping off some would-be robbers at the prison (not downtown because the prison was closer and he had "a girl to go home to." Yeah, sure, Bobby, that's why you're flirting with Jolene. ^^;
Excusing themselves from Bobby, Jolene explains that she and Bobby go back a bit, as, a few years ago, she saved him from a villain named Paper Doll (of Spider-Man fame). Bobby looked to her like his "partner in crime-fighting" ever since. Aww. 6/?
As the Mythics and Jolene take different routes/speeds to the Puff Stuff Club to investigate, the Rhino literally pulls the DangerMobile over, demanding to know where Screwball is. Turns out, he's not that happy about his name being associated a lot of bad dealings with Screwball, his supposed friend. He wanted answers from her, despite Spotlight's insistence that Screwball was framed from her stream from said fight.
Rhino agrees to go pay Screwball a visit at NHPD... uh-oh! 7/?
Sending Fight Girl to keep an eye on things, the Mythics meet Jolene at the Puff Stuff Club, where owner Eduardo Lopez is cleaning up after a long night. Great Caesar's Ghost finds the USBs in an old Lost and Found box in some dusty office. Danger Man did a smarty smart and ran a proxy to check for traps, and trapped it was!
Turns out? Said USB was a booby trap, containing a virus that would isolate a network from the rest of the 'net and bring down security measures. 8/?
Amidst it all, though, the heroes also find a contact, including an advance offer on the golden sword: The "Bane of Hephaestus," listed in the high eight-figures!
The bidder? One Marco Martin Jr., the only son of a wealthy family in New Halcyon, who had somehow run afowl of the law, even clashing with Fight Girl. Apparently threw away a prestegious college career in sports and zoology. He had apparently been missing ever since his confrontation with Fight Girl. 9/?
Giving Eduardo a break (the poor guy opened up a villain hangout and can't do a thing to stop it!), the Mythics go home for the night to analyze the USB. Once the data is extracted, they pass it off to a tired Detective Murphy, who will look to present her case before making a move... and hopefully get a few hours sleep at some point!
But for now, the Mythics make their way to a luncheon with the other New Halcyon heroes... only to be detoured by an S.O.S. by the New Halcyon Fire Dept. 10/?
Responding to the call for help, the Mythics arrive to learn that there are hostages on one of the upper floors, and there's someone behind the apparent arson(?)... SNOWFLAME!!!
The DC supervillain who became a meme through Atop the Fourth Wall (where bad comics burn), the villain powered by cocaine, was suddenly in town and causing trouble (and getting into a fight with someone else too). 11/?
The Mythics strike quick, however, as Danger Man and Great Caesar's Ghost employ their trusty "web and zap" tactic. Riven takes a blast of flames and has to use effective telekinesis to spread water against flames, enemies, and even allies... refreshing!
Vega takes to being the big, intimidating, dergon, and not only tanks shots, but also uses her powerful tail and claws to bash and slam anyone in her way.
Spotlight, grbbinga nearby table, SLAMS it on some mooks and Snowflame! 12/?
Meanwhile, in another room, the "hostages" were more like trapped civilians, who were corraled by one Armory, and began working to get them to safety out a window through the use of coats tied together to make a rope. Once they were secure, she made her way out of the room she was trapped in (freed in big part to Riven), and BLASTED Snowflame in the face!
Snowflame, hanging on with ONE HIT POINT, was zapped into submission by Riven, winning the day for the Mythics! 13/?
Ebony Wings, who had been running support, flies into the burning building to help get unconscious mooks out before the building comes down... and finds "The Purple Hero," wearing a weapon that should be in Division X custody, on her arm. Uh-oh...
Honestly, if the narrative seemed a little messy, it's because it was. I didn't do a great job of making things flow, and there may even be some discrepencies with what actually happened in the session. 14/?
Despite that, it largely went as I had hoped, and the players had fun! That was what was important.
i have a week to make things neater, and honestly, it's easier once I get that first session going. :)
